"As a poet uses words, so a photographer uses light"- these are the opening words and the one's to keep in my mind as I approach this Landscape course. Understanding, but also feeling light is the key to communicating emotion felt in the landscape at the time of taking.
The best light is often at the beginning or ending of a day. The lower angle of the sun reveals details of shape and texture.
We must learn to see what the camera sees and not what our mind's eye wants us to see. For example, in the garden we may look at and enjoy a beautiful flower but in a photograph there will be no escape from any distractions, weeds, rubbish which might be in close proximity and completely mar the subject of beauty. This has been studied in the DPP course and what I have learned there must be carried through into my compositions now.
